Personal Property coverage will include anything not attached to the dwelling. On a typical homeowners policy, the coverage will be a percentage of the value of the home. For example, if the actual structure of the home is insured for 100K, then the personal property may be 80K, or 80%. Each state varies as to how their policies are written as to what the standard percentage is. You can also increase coverage for specified things like jewlery or computers. If you are strictly looking at a policy just for personal property because you rent, it breaks down a bit differently, but still covers the same basic thing...any personal items to can bring into the dwelling.
