Must I Increase My Dose of Metformin to Lose Weight?
Weight loss is an integral aspect of improving Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, or PCOS , in women who are overweight. Carrying extra weight can cause the condition's symptoms to become more severe, and can even increase the level of Insulin Resistance (IR) that a woman experiences.1 IR occurs when the body's cells become desensitized to insulin, preventing the hormone from turning glucose into energy. This results in high blood sugar and, in some cases, diabetes. For this reason, Metformin, a popular diabetes medication, is also used to improve PCOS. Aside from regulating blood sugar levels, this pharmaceutical, also known as Glucophage, contributes to weight loss.
How Metformin Encourages PCOS Weight Loss
Insulin is a hormone that triggers both hunger and the production of fat cells. Therefore, by reducing insulin, women can reduce the amount of food they eat as well as the amount of fat cells that their bodies produce.2 Metformin's primary function is to reduce insulin, so it is only natural that this medication contributes to weight loss.
How Much Medication Is Necessary?
Dosage is determined by several factors; healthcare professionals consider medical history, body type, and severity of symptoms when coming to the proper dosage. Metformin comes in three different sized pills: 500 mg, 850 mg, and 1,000 mg.2 Generally, individuals are prescribed between 850 and 1,000 mg two times per day, with 850 mg three times per day being the maximum amount of the medication safe to consume.2
Typically, doctors will prescribe a low dose to gauge the body's reaction to the medication.2 If the body needs more, physicians will alter the dosage until the right amount is achieved. Because so many factors contribute to the proper dosage, many women who are prescribed different amounts of the drug experience the same weight loss benefits.
Understanding How Metformin Works
When trying to lose weight, PCOS sufferers must often go through a series of trial and error when determining the best PCOS drugs, exercise routines, and meal plans. Metformin won't work if foods that quickly increase blood sugar are consumed.2 Likewise, it is not guaranteed to contribute to weight loss efforts, even though weight loss is a common side effect.2
The best way to implement new medications is to maintain open lines of communication with healthcare professionals. By understanding what to expect from certain drugs, as well as the proper dosage, women fighting PCOS can improve their recovery efforts.

PCOS Strategies: Will I Lose Weight with Metformin?
Weight loss is important for women who are fighting Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, or PCOS , because excess weight can cause complications that make this condition worse.1 This disorder is often accompanied by Insulin Resistance, which can lead to weight gain because it causes excess blood sugar and insulin to float through the bloodstream.1 Therefore, PCOS weight loss is an important part of improving this condition.
Can Medication Contribute to Weight Loss?
PCOS drugs are designed to address the core issues of the condition: Insulin Resistance and a hormonal imbalance. One of these drugs, Metformin, actually causes women to lose weight. Also known as Glucophage, this pharmaceutical promotes weight loss at a price; the side effects that are associated with this medication range from mild to severe. In an effort to lose weight, PCOS sufferers may take this drug anyway.
The Risk Involved
Metformin poses many risks, which commonly include:2
Increased sweating and thirst
Muscle pain
Fever
Chills
Weakness
Heart palpitations
Lightheadedness
Dizziness
Difficulty breathing
Abnormal stools
Nail problems
Flushing (this occurs when the skin, particularly that of the face, turns red)
Additional risks, such as allergic reactions, kidney and liver failure, and electrolyte disturbances, may also occur.2 While these side effects are dangerous, the benefits of the pharmaceutical sometimes outweigh the risks, depending upon individual circumstances.
Losing Weight the Healthy Way
Although taking Metformin can contribute to weight loss, it is not the only way in which women can shed excess pounds to improve their health. Achieving healthy, sustainable weight loss is the goal of many women who have PCOS, so losing weight in the proper manner is important. While this drug may contribute to weight loss efforts, women who have this condition are encouraged to lead active, healthy lifestyles. This includes participating in regular physical activity and eating a balanced diet that minimizes the production of insulin.1 A PCOS-friendly diet is one that is high in fiber, including non-starchy vegetables, and low in fats, sugars, and simple carbohydrates. Additionally, women who are fighting this disorder are encouraged to limit complex carbohydrate intake, as well.
Achieving sustainable weight loss may be difficult, but with the support of friends and family, as well as the right meal plan and a challenging exercise routine, women can accomplish their weight loss goals. For some women, the right prescription medicines play an important role in this objective.

There are two options you can choose from football betting. One is the college football and the other one is the National Football League (NFL). Football is considered as one of the most heavily gambled on sport in the United States. In fact, in 2009 Jay Kornegay, executive director of the race and sports book at the Las Vegas Hilton, reported $92 million drawn to sports books from the Superbowl.
In this article you will learn how to achieve a successful football betting .
1. Decide for an amount to be bet. A good starting point for a novice gambler is $100. But for some professional bettors, they bet up to an average amount of $20,000 per game. Many online sportsbooks accept wagers as low as $1, so, it would really depend on you.
2. Look for an outlet where you could place your bets. If you live in or near Las Vegas, you don't have to go far to find a sportsbook. But in case you are out of the said city, you can just contact a bookie, an individual who takes wagers just as a sportsbook would, or you could bet online. There are many websites that offer betting on football games.
3. After selecting an outlet, it is time now to do football betting . There are many types of bet on a football game that you can choose from. The most basic and commonly bet being the point spread wager. In every football game, one team is favored over another. So if a weak team (let's say the Miami Dolphins) is playing a strong team (New England Patriots), the Patriots would be favored to win. Let's say they are favored by 7 points. You have two options here: (1) Bet the Patriots and hope they win by more than 7 or (2) bet the Dolphins and hope they don't lose by more than 7. If the Patriots win by exactly 7, it's a "push" and you get your money back.
4. If you want to bet the Patriots and you're in a casino sportsbook, approach a betting window and say, "I'd like the Patriots at minus 7 for 10 dollars, please." If there are sudden changes, the teller will confirm your bet anyway and give you a slip of paper indicating your wager so you have nothing to worry. Keep the ticket, if you win your bet, you'll be cashing it in. Procedure is almost the same when in an online, but of course, there is no teller. You just simply go to the “football" tab, click the box next to the Patriots, enter your wager, and click "Place Bet." Most sites ask you to click a box to confirm your bet. The money is immediately deducted from your account, but if you win you are paid the amount of your bet plus your winnings.
Look so easy isn’t it? So, give it a try now. But remember gambling is like a drinking, it can be addictive and a costly one. Be wise in settling money. But never bet more than you can afford to lose. Remember, there's no such thing as a guaranteed winner when it comes to sports betting.
