Over time, computers can pick up clutter that can cause their performance to degrade. Hard drives can also undergo defragmentation, which can slow down your computer. What do you do to help keep your computer running at peak performance levels?

I did the following and disabled all the startup programs and it sped everything up.
Stomp auto-starting programs. Click Start > Run and type "msconfig" at the prompt. Click the Startup tab and look at all that junk that loads when you launch your PC. Do you really need "Adobe Reader Speed Launch"? Probably not. Turn off anything else that looks useless, but be careful not to disable Windows system components.
Defrag your computer often. Also, run spyware software such as spy bot search and destroy. Get a good antivirus software program. Buy extra memory.
